February Photo Challenge – Day 10 – Favorite place

Well, this challenge proved to be the most challenging so far, thus the reason for its lateness. Well, that and dogs who insist on being allowed to play in the snow all night long.

I thought about all the places where I’ve lived and visited and couldn’t come up with a favorite. I started going through my pictures, looking for reasons why I could justify bestowing the title of “favorite place” upon Lorain. No matter how far I roamed over the years, I always came home to Lorain. I was born and raised here and have spent the majority of my life here, but can’t say that it is my favorite place. I haven’t seen enough of the world around me to call any one place my favorite.

So, I started thinking about other ‘places’ that could be my favorite.
I looked up ‘place’ at dictionary.com:
1. a particular portion of space, whether of definite or indefinite extent.
2. space in general: time and place.

As I continued to look through my pictures, it hit me. I channeled some Georgia (Queen of the Unique Interpretations) and will take you back to my most favorite time and place: with Chuck and Gabriel, August ♥ December 2009.

In April 2009, at 23 weeks gestation, our son Gabriel [aka Moonbeam] was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome [HLHS], a rare and serious congenital heart defect [CHD]. He had his first heart surgery when he was nine days old, his second and last at four months.

Oh, Lisa, this is hard. I wish you and your family all the best and I hope that your son will be healthy once. Has he still to undergo further surgeries? You must die of fear every time. I’m praying for you that once all will turn out well. God bless you and your family! (Don’t resent me this, I don’t know if you believe in any god or in which one, but you can also substitute the word god with universe or whatever.) I have extremely high respect of what you are managing and going through. – My daughter was very ill when she was born, but she didn’t need surgeries. I would have died of fear. But I have a small idea how this must be for you. But this is an old and long story with my daughter I maybe once tell. Now she is 24 and a wonderful young woman.

For me the interpretation is not out of topic (well, I’m the queen of…. you said it). We have got 4 dimensions, three for “place” in it’s usual meaning (length, height and width) and time! And I have experienced very often that this 4th dimension is a very weird thing. A few years ago I wanted to show my daughter where I grew up, my favorite places at that time. But when I was there these places were different, they had changed so much, that they weren`t favorite places any more, but totally strange to me. So it needs both for a favorite place: time and the coordinates on earth.
